There are 4 categories of the "Do Not Harm" Framework:
February 1, 2025 at 5:49 PM
Do not harm means taking a step back to consider if the work that you are doing can possibly be significantly harming a community or an individual.

Looking at literature, Malvika discovered Do Not Harm is actually compatible with open models, but there are some known harms of #data and #tech:

🔴 @malvikasharan.bsky.social is delivering the last talk of the day about Applying the "Do No Harm" Principle to Open* Practices and Technology

Here are some of the questions that shaped the Parsl processes:
February 1, 2025 at 5:23 PM
But now, what about sustainability of such a project? Currently resources are mainly coming from grants, external funding from projects that depend on Parsl, and volunteer in kind efforts.

Daniel Katz is now telling us about *Research Software, Sustainability, and RSEs*

With an open and community-driven approach, Wikirate assesses Modern Slavery statements. The assessment considers whether companies are releasing statements that really meet the legal requirements, but also if they detail policies and actions that go beyond compliance. The short answer is: NO.
February 1, 2025 at 4:58 PM
As modern slavery still persists in the supply chain of a lot of the stuff we use everyday, what can we do? One way to tackle this is ensuring supply chain #transparency.
February 1, 2025 at 4:48 PM
It's time to hear about *Beyond Compliance: Assessing Modern Slavery Statements using the Wikirate platform* from Vasiliki Gkatziaki

But what does repair look in the case of data donation?
It could be building alternative infrastructures and formalising trust through policy.

Dwayne also mentioned the EU data altruism regime (which not a lot of people in the room seemed to know) to ensure there is trust and transparency.
February 1, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Lets start by the basics: what is repair?
It can be anything in between breakdown and solution. Wikipedia moderation or community-led software maintenance are also good examples.

Dwayne shares a few good reads on the topic
February 1, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Now a much needed talk (and discussion) on *Voluntary data sharing is broken: Data donation for scientific research as site of digital repair*, presented by Dwayne Ansah

Pre-seeds is a course to equip aspiring researchers with the foundational knowledge, skills, and tools to embark on their research journey.

There are a variety of reasons why someone would be missing academic or research education

Joana gives us a demo of the tool for the room, but you can actually go to her exhibitions: next one in Newcastle, UK!

Let's wish her the best for the submission of her PhD and contact her if you want any ideas or platforms relevant where she can share her project and research!
February 1, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Choreography: a notation system for dance; but also a way to mobilise bodies.

A society of control is also in part about mobilizing bodies, which is where data tracking comes into play.

Joana gives workshops as part as her PhD where a browser extension is used to prompt analog, bodily things.
February 1, 2025 at 2:47 PM
What actually is choreography?

(After a quick demo where Joana made the audience dance according to some data about us!)
February 1, 2025 at 2:43 PM
What can a choreographic approach to data tracking in human-computer interaction look like?

Continue listening if you also want to know!
February 1, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Joana is presenting now:

"Human-Computer Counter-Choreographies"

an artistic research project that combines critical design, choreography and embodied sense-making with data tracking.
February 1, 2025 at 2:38 PM
You can check on this slide the architecture of the tool so far.
February 1, 2025 at 2:34 PM
We are given a demo of the tool. There are at the same time search features in academic literature, and fields to chat with the PDF of a given paper.
