It sure is. Early morning fog brain reversed the math. I like the comparable OBP, not much else on that side of the ball. I feel like this is a gap fill move until a kid is ready. I think the Mets are in on Tucker and this chip will not fall until we know where Murakami goes.

Well Pete was -9 OAA and Contreras was a +6 in 2025. Its for sure a decent defensive upgrade. They are both equally poor base runners. -18 HR, -0.9bWAR and a significant loss in overall hits. OPS+ is still above average for Contreras but yeah, its a step back on top of losing Nimmo.

Maybe but I do not like the idea of another temporary situation at 1B. Its probably also vitriol at the situation after Pete. No one is likely to make me terribly happy there.

Oh god. This just made it worse. I cannot stomach the thought of Mark Vientos playing 1B.

Yeah I don't blame Pete, but I do not like it either. I feel he played a franchise a little here. Everything since last offseason has felt like a con job. I hated the player option. I still look back to when this could have been a 7 year deal 2 years ago and wonder why the Mets got gun shy.

Well, its more likely that they were not afforded a chance to. The Mets were never going 5 years and Boras knew that. So if they were waiting for after winter meetings and Pete got the 5 Years then why bother going back to the Mets?
