Flintlock but scary or something dunno not feeling it this year
@flintlock.bsky.social
stupid people think it's cool, smart people think it's a joke, also cool
Why won't UK kid's writers talk about issues of class and poverty?

(Honestly, if anything, I think the gold bricks risk overegging the metaphor pudding)

It was illjudged, but the mural was worse, because the targets weren't Millet/Hoffman who that specific comment was made to. Here's a photo of Hoffman in happier times, marching next to Roberta Moore of the EDL's Jewish Division.

It was still dumb, because it gave members of the far right ammo.

It's almost impressive the way the Jo Cox Foundation managed to frame "political assassination by a fascist" as "people not being 'civil' enough to politicians on social media".

Perfect album from the year of my 21st. One of the few redeeming things to come out of the Britpop apocalypse.

(I don't count Luke Haines because he clearly had a miserable time and hated every moment of it openly)

A bit more about inclusivity in early RPGs. I give you two extracts from the largely forgotten UK RPG Heroes (1979). They are a dedication to fallen PCs that mentions a lesbian couple and the rules for relationships that handle gay PCs in a very wargame way.

This letter from White Dwarf complaining about sexism (December 1985) is from Oliver Dickinson. Regular correspondent with Greg Stafford, author of the "Griselda" adventures and a mere two years younger than Gygax.

If you want an "RPG elder" to idolise, better options than Gygax are available.

Post a non-religious photo you think of as holy.

Not including the records that came with this bad boy. I think at least part of the blame for me being an unbearable music nerd has to lie with my mother.

I swear this is absolutely true, despite how embarrassingly on brand it is. (It was the first record I couldn't morally justify just ripping from my mates). I think I bought it from Our Price if it helps.

1/ While Britpop might have been the media darling, I put it to you that looking back grebo bands were objectively cooler.

Compare and contrast Crazyhead with Blur in the photos below.

Objectively, Crazyhead are cooler.

I very rarely plug my own work, so I hope you'll forgive me for bigging up my LARP "The Spoils of Evil" here. Mostly because just look at this map Melainemaps did for me. It's lovely!

Apart from anything else, "doomerism" charges are pretty weak gruel if you ignore the fact there's a 1995 analysis that is terrifyingly prophetic if you just swap out "BNP" for "UKIP". (I've genuinely never seen a centrist even try to address this)

As another example, I can't see the US RPG scene ever having put out something like this, let alone it being from a major magazine publisher with high street distribution. That's the kind of cultural diversity I think we've lost and it doesn't feel like horny bard memes were worth the exchange.

If a hexcrawl has "nothing here" I think that's really bad design, but I think everywhere contains "something", if that includes stuff like weather and local wildlife or even Bob the peasant saying ooo arr a lot.

Going for a "tiny publisher" definition of indie, it was this near forgotten RPG.

Incidentally, I'm still trying to track down a copy if anyone's selling. (The creator became a born again Christian so won't distribute it because horror and spiritualism).

Wouldn't these essentially be a more explicit version of Starlight Adventures?

fbpe have always been masters of unintentional hilarity. Lest we forget they think this was a sign of a great campaign that failed because of Corbyn, not because it alienated most people with shit like this.

"If I'm this angry about a pet passport..."

Be interesting to see the (absolute lack of a) response to this poll from the "you have to vote Labour to keep Reform out" crowd. (Also pretty strong evidence that Reform are mostly taking votes off their fellow unionists I think).
