I was actually interviewed by a journalist on this subject, for a fairly prominent American publication, due to my background in HoI4 mod development. The article didn’t make it past the editor, unfortunately, and the subject is badly understudied imo.

Ok, but why are we telling the AI model to shut itself down? There's no reason why the computer should require anything like that to execute a shutdown command for a program externally.

This seems like random speculation and an attempt by Palisade to make its research seem relevant.

Maybe because most Americans have never been in a war zone. The US hasn't had a real one in over 150 years.

Any of CJ Cherryh's Sci-fi work, particularly Cyteen, Downbelow Station, and Foreigner.

It’s even worse in Microsoft Word. Copilot makes awful stylistic suggestions, and tries to “correct” fictional statements even if you’re writing… fiction.

At the same time it's sad that there aren't more visible remains of the equally long history of indigenous settlement in the now-United States. I think it'd bridge a bit of that historical gap and garner a little more appreciation for those who came before.
