Macc Sustainable Travel
@fhvjhvgvb.bsky.social
Sustainable travel is my thing. Pedestrians, cycling, public transport. Our Council is extremely car-centric and has poor track record on delivering active travel options. CEC = Cheshire East Council. Green Party Member. Cycling UK local rep.
It was also very slow...

Not that I'm aware of. However as the bus only ran for a few hours each day, it was useless to airport workers anyway.

...it doesn't; obviously!

I agree but I'm not sure how you measure it?

The gas is highly flammable. If the pipes and infrastructure are purged of gas before a strike, the damage is reduced.

It's probably different for each crossing and possibly at different times of day(?) and whether the crossing has been used recently. Not easy to measure as a casual observer.

...apart from @jonburkeuk.bsky.social obviously.

Is it actually accurate. I rather doubt it myself.

I lived in the area for a while in the 1980s. I think I did most, if not all, of the well known trails. Amazing place.

John Knight is particularly interested in improving cycling infrastructure. There's lots to do in that respect.

I don't fly but the inequitable subsidies flying gets and trains don't, makes train travel unaffordable for many people. It should be far cheaper to run a train than to run an aircraft. Something's very wrong.

Somebody once told me that it's not very rigorously policed and some bike shops were colluding with customers to misuse the scheme. I have no evidence of this and it was a long time ago. It may not be true.

It's a "cycle to work" scheme. It would be interesting to see data on how many of the bikes purchased are regularly used for this purpose. I'm all for people cycling but I do wonder if this is the most effective way of delivering it?

It is widely misused though. And if it's still a salary sacrifice scheme it's not available to those on the minimum wage. Has it changed maybe?
