Yes.
Today's Christmas Book:

Greenglass House by @katemilford.bsky.social

A snowstorm. An unexpected houseful of guests at a remote inn. Intrigue. Ghosts. Christmas.

Perfect as a read aloud for Grades 3-5.

Independent read for grade 4-8.

Apologies, but you'll probably get hooked on the series.

Completely agree. Strange and beautiful novel that balances antique resonance with contemporary sensibility and deep humanity.
I've just finished The Wolf and His King.

If there was one person I'd trust to do a medieval retelling it's @finnlongman.com and they outdid themselves with this one. Literally lyrical too.

Among the best fantasy I'll read this year, and if this isn't on your wishlist then get it on there.

With so many big names it is surprising The Thursday Murder Club is the appallingly bad movie it is. Gross ham acting, wooden dialogue, and a ludicrous plot. I’ve seen more convincing episodes of Midsomer Murders. (And that is a very low bar!)

It’s been great seeing all the DW conversations lately on Insta so after last summer’s posters, I’ve been inspired to start creating more so instead of Demon Dentist, here are some incredible reads which feature young carers #kidlituk

The very best of British writing (for children) is brilliant stuff, and this is an example of its brilliant best. Richly multi-layered it is also a deeply engaging story. It really does burn bright. Don’t miss it US.
It's an emotional moment for me to hold the US edition of TYGER in my hands. I put 9 years of my life into writing it because I believe children's books are the most important books of all. Thank you @penguinschoollib.bsky.social for bringing it to the US!

Although rather more conventional than his first two brilliantly imaginative novels, this cleverly told courtroom murder mystery from @guusvalk.bsky.social is compelling and hugely entertaining.

This seemed to start rather slowly, but by a third of the way it picked up and from halfway was compulsive. (By which time the early investment paid off enormously.) Strongly recommend. Keep going. Thanks @philipgraybooks.bsky.social

Whatever happens, never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So always make time to share books with kids, and help them find books to love. Make reading central to everything you do. It will change their lives forever!

The stories in Missing Pages, now available in print, are far more that gap-fillers for ML completists. Multi-layered and thought-provoking; a wonderful adjunct to his Library. They explore the metaphysics of books, travelling deep within and far beyond their words. @marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social

Sharing books with children can be such an effective way to build bonds and develop your own 'love language'.
Our #WriterInResidence @lawrencepatrice.bsky.social knows what a difference shared reading can make.

Our #StoryExplorers programme aims to embed sharing stories at home to strengthen bonding and attachment for foster, kinship and adoptive families:

Children's books are never "just" for children. They are books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes absolutely no-one at all. They are really books for EVERYONE, and you can never, ever, EVER be too old to read them, and to love them!

Not really cosy crime but not noir either. This from @denzilmeyrick.bsky.social was a hugely enjoyable quick read with an entertainingly human lead character. Funny but engaging too. I hope my wife took the hint and is getting me his new one for Christmas.

Not generally a fan of short stories. But I bought a second one today. The writing of @adammacqueen.bsky.social is wonderful at any length.
December 13, 2024 at 4:44 PM
Just arrived. As I have a full hardback collection of all @marklawrenceauthor.bsky.social brilliant books to date, there was no way I wanted to be without this one, although a special edition from one of our fine independent publishers would be hugely desirable.
