America and American culture has never been easy for a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). The value placed on "rugged independence", violence, extroversion and competition over community (money over people/life) has always been difficult to navigate for me. What's happening now is impossible. I see you.
I miss the feeling of joy or even just contentment. I don't remember the last time I felt anything but sadness, anger, or despondency, and I am having a difficult time believing that I will ever feel anything else. Once you witness the horrors of man at this extreme level, you are forever changed.

So, I'm just supposed to pay taxes to the regime? No one prepared me for the fact that in order to be a law abiding citizen, I will have to give my money to fund the most vile shit/people imaginable. I keep telling myself to get it over with, but I can't physically or mentally bring myself to do it.

It’s not a great deal if you don’t need it. And especially this year, others really need support. So for all of us who have enough, let’s refuse to get sucked into the holiday shopping frenzy and share instead of shop. We don’t need more stuff, we need communities where all our neighbors are safe.

Sometimes some things are good. Sometimes you have to leave the heaviness of the current situation in the US behind to feel okay enough to recognize them. I return soon anxious and dragging my feet but I will keep fighting as long as I can bear it. Take a break, if possible. Ensenada, B.C. Mexico

The creeping hopelessness is the most difficult part of all this. The most vile people imaginable continue with their assault. It's difficult to imagine that things will progress forward in my lifetime. I will fight, but hope this will get better is getting harder and harder to come by.
