Fox affiliates have a fair amount of editorial discretion and tend to reflect their communities' politics. They can't survive without local viewers and advertisers, much less turn a profit.

Assuming these are real people, I think it's just that some folks cannot conceive of a scenario where there are no great options and nobody who can just swoop in to save you.
