using BG3 as the example, if the level of grotesque-ness the announcement trailer achieves is proportional to the game's eventual quality... we're in for a generational installment here.

if i were tasked with redesigning it i would just re-balance the existing elements and dial back the 1990s bevel/embosses going on here. ease up the tension in the logo overlap with the "portal" oval, MAKE THEM BALLS BIGGER, but otherwise not touch much.

I read this comes up at Wizards once every few years, it mostly comes down to not fucking with the golden goose.

Competitively I guess this might be a thing in constructed tournaments? Far as I've ever seen those have approved card pools though. Might just signal "this card old".

totally, lots of tonal variation in larian games. odd that bg3’s announcement trailer was also pretty gruesome when that didn’t match the tone of most of the game (though it had it’s all-in dark movements as well).

curious to see where it goes, not a trailer i’d rewatch much.
