Speaking as a visual designer, I can't think of a ton of things that have had the lasting power that the MTG card back has enjoyed.
It feels very much of its time but I can't imagine anything else taking its place if they were ever to attempt a redesign.

magestorm was peak arena FPS and will never be recaptured, it really had it all: progression, classes with unique spells and identities, capture-the-flag style objectives on varied maps that absolutely ripped, great sound effects, memorable sprites, great first person control and action.
