Wataru listened to Natsuhi in silence. Then, he inclined his head towards her, a slight smile on his face. “Of course, I don’t believe anyone would expect you to forgive your little blackbird. The things she has said and done are truly vile. She has done everything within her power to push you away.” Then, he leaned in closer to her, looking at her intently. “Her obsession with you has always guided her. I do not believe that her heart has ever been in the words she said to you.” “But they still hurt,” Natsuhi whispered, and Wataru nodded in acknowledgment. “Of course they did! Like the sharpest of knives. And that is why they became her weapon of choice.” He shook his head. “But she was never able to land the killing blow in the end.” “I wish she had.” When Wataru spoke once more, he was very quiet. “I understand what it is like to be in love with someone who has hurt you. To be lying mortally wounded at their feet, and to still hope for their hands to be the ones to bring you succor.”
