So many caterpillars, it was great
A Tawny Emperor caterpillar on a hackberry branch that has been pruned. The caterpillar is lime green with two white stripes down its back. The head is a flat and shield like, with two 'horns' emerging from the top of its head. By the lichen and moss on the branch the caterpillar is clearly very small

Yardwork may have kicked my ass today but I got to see a lot of caterpillars so it balances out

The false garlic has also begun the spring onslaught. Soon the yard will be blanketed

The first early bird fleabane has bloomed!

The violets are really coming in now, so the fleabane will be here before I know it

Knowing I've probably seen my last bloom of frost asters here honestly breaks my heart
A very fat and very old beagle wiggles her way out of a dense stand of frost asters in full bloom. The shrubs stand four to five feet tall and provide excellent hiding spots for said beagle

Getting ready to move has been tough, but idk how I'm gonna have the heart to tear down the life sized hobbit door I made for our semi-annual LOTR marathon last fall. The barad-dur lamp is obviously making the move.

The bees all know my yard is where it's at in September when the frost asters bloom. I was never able to capture just how many bees visit but these shrubs of tiny asters bring in hundreds of bees a day. It's my favorite time of year
A row of shrubs roughly four to five feet high grows along a 40 foot length of fence with thousands of nickel sized flowers growing all across the shrubs in rows down the branches

The honey bees figured out that in the afternoon the heat would push the nectar to the surface of the hummingbird feeder so they could reach it and, well I had to start pulling the feeder in around midday

It may not be milkweed, but the monarchs seem to enjoy the late season frost asters when they're around
