I went digging in Forcellini——and he does not give it as a name for hair style, beyond simply 'a knot', with a bunch of synonyms. So I'm guessing, like others, that 'nodus' is more a modern term?

Oh no! It bet that may be that campus' culture the week pre-TG? I regularly get <50%, and sometimes just 3-4 students the class before TG break begins. This semester had much better attendance than usual, but I was already down 2 students on Monday morning!

Ha ha!! I taught the Dr. Who Pompeii episode yesterday, so probably a very good chance for survival and all around general silliness and unlikely circumstances :)
