there's a lot of hoops & stats talk here! I also talk about whatever else is on my mind which may not always be hoops.

got some written stuff about hoops & film study in the pipeline so I hope you'll read it in time, anything I publish will be pinned.
this gives me so much hope

the secret to closing games is flattening the context of the sport into a simpler plane through sheer talent (if you have the personnel luxury to do that). for zion, borrego needs to flatten the context to either a footrace or leaping comp using motion & sets. zion wins those tests 10/10 times
Pelicans fall 133-128 to Grizzlies in OT. They had nine-point lead with 6:03 left but didn't close well. Offense struggled with creating good looks down stretch.

Jose Alvarado: 24 PTS, 6 3s
Saddiq Bey: 18 PTS, 11 REB
Zion Williamson: 17 PTS, 2 BLK
Jordan Hawkins: 14 PTS, 4 3s (both season highs)

Queen is an offensive engine. He just needs to figure himself out a little more. But his mind has a hoop computer in it. He sees everyone and knows where the action is.
Great hit ahead by Derik to find Peavy for his ninth assists.

MEM gets close but NOLA finds a way to keep them at bay.

113-104 Pels.

queen will feast on benches lmao

There's gonna be some guys who emerge in the league bc of the coaching of Borrego. Jose is the only the first + loudest
Don't know if someone has mad this observation yet, but Devonte' Graham had a great year in Charlotte under Borrego. Jose Alvarado might be on his way to a special year

jose is the best player on the pels (in a holistic sense)
A roller coaster first half ends on a high for the Pelicans as they take a 68-53 lead over the Grizzlies to the locker room. The story has clearly been New Orleans' bench: Jose Alvarado (18 PTS, 4 3s) and Yves Missi (6 PTS, 6 REB, 2 BLK), with a nice showing from Micah Peavy (6 PTS, 4 REB), too.

I agree with this. There's so many cool things & celebrating joyous occasions is something we never get enough of.
I strenuously object to the implicit assertion that people don't want to hear about other people's holidays. I do! In Iran they have an outdoor picnic day (Sizdah Bedar). In Japan there's a bean-throwing day (Setsubun). There's a whole world of fascinating rituals and traditions.

small silly things: 5 hour video essays on video games I played as a kid lol

non-small silly thing: my wife. she's my best friend, life partner, everything to me & I'm a better person for knowing her.
What small, silly/delightful thing are you thankful for in 2025? (It has to be light, I'm gonna yell at you if you say "democracy" or something.)

love this
Michigan freshman Oscar Goodman gets a huge slam and the bench completely loses it

Seth definitely watches ball. That's a deep cut lmaoooooo
I can’t explain this but being used as reference in a punch line on talk shows is a sacred basketball player level.

ironically this is a hobby that keeps him fit & he can incorporate basketball/hand-eye coordination drills into the training lol
Tyrese Maxey was at the national dog show!?! This is actually very impressive how he led his dog through the course!

I don't think that's the right idea.

Although tbh they can just do this for the W & it would slap just as hard.

Looney is nice.
Two minutes of Kevon Looney absolutely cooking one on one after practice to remind you that NBA players are better basketball players than anyone you've ever seen

so I think that's wild to say bc the mechanism of some of these injuries are not stress related.

what offseason workout trains you to protect your legs from guys falling on your ankle? people are hyperfixating on the injuries & not also looking at the bigger picture.
The Athletic: An anonymous general manager on all the calf and lower body injuries: “I personally don’t believe it’s because we are running too much, I believe it’s because these guys don’t run enough.” Another executive said it’s because players don’t practice the right things in the offseason

even though we are rightfully excited about the pelicans' win yesterday, they still did *lose* the 3rd. but this time it wasn't an apocalyptic loss, only a loss by 1 point. so the woes after halftime are still there, they just got lucky with a bulls team that has a false sense of strength.
