A facebook post by Everett Howe on 5 August 2017: The author of the (philosophy) book I was reading this morning thought it was a good idea to use the expression “ceteris paribus” a couple of times in one chapter. I do know what it means. But when I hit it the first time, I thought that, all other things being equal, perhaps my time would be better spent baking some cookies. So I did.

Google’s AI summary created a *second* nonexistent paper out of the *first* AI-created nonexistent paper! No wonder they call it “generative AI”!

Back in 2018, on another platform, I noted this abomination and wrote:

Maybe it’s more believable in the early ‘60s? I was just listening to some younger people talk about seeing Judgement at Nuremberg for the first time, and how they thought “Oh, now maybe I can see something attractive in Shatner.”

It’s interesting: Newspaper food sections that mentioned the book when it was published say more about him than the book itself. Here’s a clip from the Los Angeles Daily News (12/1/1954). Also, his obituary in the Biloxi Sun (1/24/1983).

Later, he had his first Job as cook on a Mobile-New Orleans tugboat. When only 18 years of age he joined the extensive kitchen staff of Marshall Ballard, editor of the New Or-Jeans Item. And it was under [obscured] Ballard's guidance that [Jesse] learned to plan menus, and serve, as well as to cook with an inspired skill which could transform mere food into a feast. As Jesse himself puts it, he presided as "chief cook and bottlewasher" for the Ballards and their five children for 40 years. JESSIE LEWIS SR. GULFPORT - Jessie Willis Lewis Sr., 87, a resident of 207 Caron Lane in Bay St. Louis, died Friday in Bay St. Louis. He was employed as a cook with the Marshall Ballard family for 64 years and was cited for a cookbook he had written in 1964. Survivors include four sons, Willis Lewis of Gulfport, Jessie Lewis Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., Arthur Lewis of Bay St. Louis and Edward Lewis of Carson, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Mary Bell of Bay St. Louis and Mrs. Yvonne Lewis Thomas of Long Beach, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, where services will be conducted at 11. Burial will follow in Cedar Rest Cemetery. J.T. Traveling this weekend — on my way home from a conference in Charlotte, NC. Flight boards in about 2.5 hours… currently.

Not hungry right now, but kind of hoping I will become so so that I can get some collards. (Some BBQ as well, but the collards are the attraction.)
