Born on this day in 1922, Maila "Vampira" Nurmi. Here she is sporting a fashion forward Tank Girl crop in 1955.

Blackburn Miner's Gala Day, West Lothian, 1975. Me on the bottom left there wi the white cockade, scanning the horizon for signs of Butcher Cumberland. My star status was cemented on this day.

Celebrating the final day of #Noirvember and #StAndrewsDay by paying tribute to my two favourite #TartanNoir films, Shallow Grave (Danny Boyle, 1994), Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Carl Reiner, 1982).

#NoirvemberChallenge day 30: best #FilmNoir ending. For me there are two; one stone cold, the other, er, white hot!

"If they hang you, I'll always remember you." The Maltese Falcon.

"Made it, ma! Top of the world!" White Heat.

#NoirvemberChallenge day 29 - favourite RKO #FilmNoir: again, it's Murder, My Sweet. But more broadly, I think RKO is my favourite noir studio. They weren't the biggest player in the studio system, but they had a low key, intimate style that made them the leaders in the genre.

Marlowe was living in an apartment on Yucca Avenue in the 1950s. There is no Yucca Avenue, but I like to think it was in the same building as Ed Wood on Yucca Street.

This just arrived in time for the tail-end of #Noirvember.

#NoirvemberChallenge day 28: a #FilmNoir I watch over & over. I apologise. It's Murder, My Sweet. I've posted about it before, I'll be posting about it again. It was my entry into the genre. I love it 40 years later for the handsome visuals & the script that crackles with Chandler's dialogue.

#NoirvemberChallenge day 27: favourite #FilmNoir featuring food.

"What do you want?!"

"Black coffee, soft-boiled eggs, and a scotch and soda."

Marlowe orders the perfect Noir breakfast after surviving a rough night in Murder, My Sweet.

"The songs, the songs, the bloody, bloody songs!" The Singing Detective (1986). "Now it's dark." Blue Velvet (1986). #Noirvember is getting under my skin.

#NoirvemberChallenge day 25 - favourite #FilmNoir featuring a boat. The first one that springs to mind is His Kind of Woman, which features a sweaty showdown in the engine room between Mitch and a very, very nasty Raymond Burr.
