my elderly mother-in-law is starting to have trouble with her iPhone; more specifically the UI/UX. It goes well beyond turning down transparency. Changes in where buttons, search boxes are placed, in addition to certain “automatic sorting” becomes disorienting especially when fonts are made bigger.

as a designer and maker, producing products sustainably has been a top priority. Using AI, even as a tool, seems counter to that goal when it uses a significant amount of energy.

perhaps it’s just me but if a car dealership service center says it’s going to take 3 hours to change a headlight and only offer 5 mile shuttle service, maybe it should offer a chance for me to go to the back with the tech and help take apart the vehicle, up my DIY skills.

25 years ago, I would have never guessed 3 out of 4 cars I own be American-branded and all 4 made in North America (Chrysler is made in Canada). For a non-American, I’ve really taken this “buy America” thing to heart; but I’m 💔 with the current social-political climate.

an update. Tesla decided to keep our X 2 extra days. They called to provide a loaner but didn’t process it in time before end of the day 😕
meanwhile, the Pacifica’s 12V battery stopped working. Service was planned for next Friday but my daughter has therapy everyday till then so I bought so jumper.

I have 3 service appointments coming up for 3 vehicles. 2 for maintenance and have recalls. 1 is to fix a screwup from earlier service. How do I convey to them that it is important for them all to get it right this one time and order all the parts now? — without sounding like a nagging parent?
