This Fench Jewish boy was gassed to death as soon as he arrived in Auschwitz. He was four years old. Had he lived he would be 88 today.

He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Drancy on 16 August 1942. He was murdered in a gas chamber after the arrival selection.

Steve Pinker and Marian Tupy go after the notion that we need religion to have good modern societies, and also after the claim that things were better in the olden days than they are now.

Trigger warning: blood! Yesterday I posted this photo of an injury I sustained, and asked readers to guess what caused it: Given what readers know of me, the most common answers were “bit by …

Nathan Lents and Agustín Fuentes use the "Argument from Complexity" to claim that sex isn't binary. It's the same old tired and misguided claims that Fuentes has been making for aeons, but there is no new biology (or philosophy) here.

Surprise! Agustín Fuentes and Nathan Lents criticize the sex binary
I don’t know how many times Agustín Fuentes, an anthropology professor at Princeton, will keep repeating the same arguments about why biological sex isn’t binary (see these posts on my …

A fair number of people think there's good evidence of UFOs, with some maintaining that the US government actually HAS alien spaceships. There's a new documentary out about this, but I won't believe it until they actually show us a flying saucer.

This post gives recordings of three great poets--Yeats, Eliot, and Dylan Thomas--reading their stuff, but in a monotone without expression or feeling. I'm baffled by this, as the three poems shown COULD be read much better.

whyevolutionistrue.com/2025/11/22/w...
Why can’t poets read their stuff properly?
I don’t go to poetry readings, but I read a fair amount of poetry—mostly older stuff. (To me, poetry ceased to be good when it became unrhymed prose with variable line spacing.)  So my title …

Earlier on the expedition we found the most beautiful flower, and here, my friends, is the biggest: Rafflesia arnoldi seen in full bloom today in the Sumatran jungle. This is the largest flower on earth and one of the greatest wonders of the natural world.
