And honestly, going into teaching and dealing with young people, being able to coherently and calmly talk about sexual health has been a real asset. Kids (and young adult people) will open up to the art teacher or art history lecturer in unexpected ways!

I am insatiably curious, so didn't resent much, but I am floored by how much and how often I refer back to a half-semester class in biology: STDS: The Biology, the History, the Misery. I learned SO MUCH about public health, about the biology of infection, about psychology and stigma, politics....
