I disagree. When I talk about these incidents, one of the things I stress is that because targeting is so easy, even minor political opponents are targeted with invasive spyware. If anything, that makes it worse.

Alas. I have learned that if I take it seriously right away, I can get back to training after a few days, but if I try to stoically shrug it off, I am in for months of pain.

Just to "yes and" your point, as a person who worked my first tech job in my teens, I can tell you that my biggest disadvantage was that I had no idea of what was normal, so I was ill-equipped to push back against all kinds of bad behavior.
