I get plenty of tawny owl action here. There was a nest a short distance from the kitchen door, so we had normal calling, weird male cooing/trilling as well as 'feed me' calls from the youngsters.
But barn owl calls are just something else. Freeze your blood.

I have a camera that automatically takes a photo and a short video, then uploads all the data to a central server that plots the exact trajectory as part of a huge citizen science project.
But I went outside to see what I could see and there was a Barn Owl sitting on my roof, which was pretty cool!

Tinned Thongs?!!? 🙃

In reality, they're on a different flight going somewhere else. 🫠

Well, a nation duped, or exposed for what they really were - hard to tell, and there's a 30% nasty underbelly in most societies, by the look of it. The trick is not to give them power (looking at you, USA) and make it absolutely clear that such tendencies are socially unacceptable.

The whole nazi thing started off as a WWI veteran's movement, so as that was what he was, it was a natural progression. That article explains the thinking very well. Most people were boiled frogs that didn't notice the societal changes until the Allies arrived.
Modern Nazis go in with eyes open.

I remember my mother saying that her father (a relatively enthusiastic party member) told her that the Jews had to 'go' because they were 'cheating us', although I have a suspicion that there was a Jewish friend of his living in the basement for most of the war.

Ah. What my mother would call a "pensioner's portion", i.e. a bit ungenerous.

Deffo need gloves. Removing ticks is important if they're struggling as they get quite anaemic if there's too many.
I think, if a hoglet is below 500gm, outside in daylight, kidnap it, go vet, feed it cat food (not fish! Stinky!) and don't let it go until it's over 500gm in the spring.

Mine nearly didn't, but seems to have been fixed by a couple of artery stents in his legs.
I'm watching him and know I'll have the same problems, so I'm working on keeping my agility and flexibility as long as I can.
I was showing the Chiropractor how to do proper asian squats last week. 🙃

My pheasant sleeps at night in a cage I bought for a run of young hedgehogs I had to look after for a winter a few years ago. Actually, she's getting a bit too big for it, and really should be roosting in a bush or something overnight. A project for the holdays, I think.

My lot are in their mid 90s. Same thing. 😬

And if you choose to take a struggling Hedgiepig in, they stink. All the time. Keep them in the conservatory, or somewhere that gets ventilated. They crap everywhere, then walk in it, can't wash it off and also get ticks and other parasites. But they're really cute. Don't let them hibernate!

Always worse when they make 99 only to fall in the last.

Love some of the descriptions in there, too.
Also, Hedgehogs prefer NOT to eat slugs. Definitely a food of last resort, and they also get lungworm off them, so if you see a Hedgehog trying to eat a slug, it's starving and needs to be fed some cat crunchies with a bowl of water to stomp around in.

They're great, aren't they? We used nematodes last year and the population nosedived. Even this year there were far fewer slugs, and mostly small ones, which the toads seemed to prefer.

Oooh. A choice: brown moustache, or a white one, or even half and half.

The night-time scene downstairs when all the hoomans are asleep. It's a different world. 🙃

I've got a snippet of this 80/90/00s semi-rockabilly song where the chorus was "Spanish soul, Spanish soul" or something similar running around in my head. Can't name the artist, though. I hate brain worms. By the end of the day I'll have remembered the entire score, but not the words or the artist.

Oh, look at the other names in the page above that one.
The 'Budapest Keeled Slug' is great, and the 'Spanish Slug' reminds me of a 90s pop song.
