On the one hand, caramelizing 3+ lbs of onions takes FOREVER.

On the other: the French Onion Soup that results from this is worth it.

Tonight, I’m drinking a glass of “F*** Stephen Miller” — because I SWEAR that’s how I read it the first time… and now it’s become canon in our house.

(M is not a red drinker, but occasionally adds it to a Naked Wine order…because he knows “F*** Stephen Miller” is always the correct sentiment)

Good News! It was NOT just me in the rain with a sign. It was me, M, and about 50 new friends! Dems, DSA, Indivisible, educators, and neighbors standing out in the rain, outnumbering the bigots.

My sign may have melted, but I stand by the sentiment.

A white cat, slightly put out by being photographed at such a time (the indignity!) being held still by his human. The cat’s right ear is visibly swollen as compared to his left. Obviously, he is still very handsome. And distinguished. And soft. Close-up of the swollen, purple ear of a white cat. No puncture marks, no explanation. Honestly? It looks like an ankle sprain… except that it’s a cat’s ear. Because I’m sure Ivory would be *so embarrassed* that I’m showing strangers on the internet these pics, please take a moment to appreciate how clean and fluffy his fur is, how pretty his green eyes are, and how handsome is. My face is melting.

But my favorite allergens are cuddled up so sweetly beside me. And my leg is a pillow. So I will have to get my allergy meds later. When it’s less disruptive.

Ebony and Ivory are very excited about your birthday, Sierra… or they would be if they weren’t sulking because there were plumbers in the house. So I offer you a live shot and a better (recent) pic.

Turns out, I hate

- black yarn (I admit: I didn’t see what the big deal was. I get it now)
- small needles (2.5 mm is smaller than I’d ever used. I was sure they’d snap at any moment)
- seaming (esp: tiny, black seaming)

Haven’t done Grain yet, but did Weave and Furrow for my niece and Dad in my niece’s school color (she’s a starting freshman this year, Grandpa is very proud)

I recently started knitting, and now I’m learning about texture. My daughter picked out a yarn and scarf pattern I’ve been (slowly) working on.

I’ve also learned I need to knit into a plastic bag, as my knitting supervisors like to add their own “wool” to the project. 😸🧶

3 dahlias, one deep purple and two spikey light pink-with-crimson stripes-and-speckles. The largest dahlia is about 6 inches wide and looks like a sea anemone decided to live above water because someone told her not to. She’s punk like that. It’s entirely possible the crimson streaks-and-spatter is the blood of her enemies, and she’s gonna wear it as a warning to everyone else that she WILL cut you. (I’ve never grown a flower that was at once pretty and vaguely threatening. I love her.)

Ivory DOES NOT want to be alone. He’s taken to wailing if one of his humans is not in the living room with him. Then happily purrs and falls asleep in our arrival.

He and his brother are both 18, and I’ve never had cats live this long. Is this just my new normal?

Sea Puppy Blep!

We went to the Seattle Aquarium today, and this adorable chonk was putting on a show — a full 360° flop-about to find the perfect basking spot. Then he yawned, stretched and 3-4 people all responded “Oh big stretch” or “Good big stretch” simultaneously. 😂

It’s that time of year when I become a Bee Hotelier.

My hardy hibiscus blooms, all the bees go nuts, and the bumbles decide to sleep over.
