I read both Blindsight and Echopraxia recently and felt the same way. Was a lot of fun watching the in-universe presentation about genetically engineered vampires on Watts’ website and seeing how much of a match it is on the AI industry’s MO.

I can’t tell if the tone here is reassurance or resignation

MacOS is not quite as customizable and I'd love to use Fedora+KDE on this (which I will in a few months I think) but overall, I think Apple gets the basics right for what a computing experience should be in the 21st century. The UI/UX paradigms are a matter of taste, but everything else? So good.

The battery life is great, the performance is great, the hardware is pretty good, verging on great. I don't think the modifier keys on MacOS are necessarily better than on PCs, but that's my only nitpick so far. I know I'm late to the party here, but these are such good computers.

Tenet was close to being fun, and then it kinda... wasn't. The music, the cast, the sets, all impeccable. But the movie barely took a minute to breathe at times. It didn't feel right.

It sucks that not a lot of folks saw Pacific Rim in theaters. It was maybe the last movie that blew me away. :/

My go-to example of late has been Pacific Rim. It has everything. Thoughtful camerawork, great pacing, actual little details throughout the sets that make a large-screen viewing richer and repeated personal viewings interesting because there's so much there to find. It may be shallower, but it's FUN

I don't think much about the author's intent in choosing the colour of the curtains and so on unless it's very clear how it all plays into the plot when it comes to movies - why else would I pay a bunch of money to watch the movie in one sitting on a huge-ass screen?

So many movies do this better.

I don't mean this to sound derogatory - Oppenheimer has the feeling of a movie made to be a blockbuster, the outcome of an afternoon alone in the sandbox with very expensive toys. It's well-made! But it's not good.

This is subjective, yeah, all of the above is. I'm a shallow person, you could say.
