One reason the NYT has burned its credibility with trans people is that they still cite the discredited Cass report in reporting on trans healthcare. Never the German, Utah, or other systematic reviews supporting care. They also never provide the political context behind restrictions in care.

The Trump administration is attempting to force a new term for gender affirming care to call it "sex rejecting procedures." This term was literally made up this year by the far right group Ethics and Public Policy Center in a comment submitted in April 2025. It is now being used widely by HHS.

84 children out of 894 in a country of 70 million. Again, this debate has taken up the attention of every publication in the UK for years over at most a few hundred trans youth that medically transition. The disproportionate coverage is absurd. It's a moral panic.
In total, 84 children (all under 18 years old) have told staff they are taking either testosterone (for females wishing to masculinise) or oestrogen (for males wishing to feminise), out of a total open caseload of 891. These hormones cause irreversible changes to the body, helping someone who wants to transition to develop characteristics associated with their preferred gender. For example, testosterone use in a biological female can stimulate growth of facial hair (and other body hair), a drop in the pitch of their voice, and other typically male characteristics such as pattern baldness.

Good luck with cracking down on hormones. They're some of the most widely prescribed medications. "Cracking down" will only push people further into more illicit sources. Just look at how the war on drugs has worked.
Cass told the New Statesman that gathering long-term data on hormones was “absolutely just as important, if not more important than, the puberty blocker component” of the research proposals contained in her review. Perhaps the knowledge of widespread self-medicating among young people will provide the impetus to put in place the necessary infrastructure to do just that. A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care said: “The safety of children and young people is our top priority. We do not condone self-medication with cross sex hormones. These are licensed, prescription-only medicines and should only be used by people who are eligible and under medical supervision.” Medical regulators will “crack down on any rogue prescribers, products and online services putting people in danger,” they added.

What's hilarious is that a bunch of MAGA influencers pushed the Angel film studio as not having trans content but now they're releasing Animal Farm with a major character voiced by Laverne Cox.
