Amazingly some good friends from AR are also in NYC right now and we are going to meet up for dinner tomorrow!

Today: Bryant Park Christmas Market, treats at Magnolia Bakery, got on the High Line at Hudson Yards, visited Stonewall, dinner at Katz’s, failed mission to find a Sanrio store in Times Square that apparently doesn’t exist. 22k steps.

The kind of charmed life I lead: said I wished I had a bottle of wine and Jon is out getting me one now.

Love that J captured us looking weary on the Subway. The Butter hat was my purchase at the Bryant Park Christmas market.

My Memaw’s broccoli/cheese/rice casserole is known as Goop. My uncle famously said as a small child, “I’m not eating that GOOP!” And then was left alone and ate the whole pan. From then on it appeared at every Thanksgiving and was called Goop.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

An interesting thing about traveling with C and her wheelchair is people are often whisking us out of lines. We were in line for Katz’s and got whisked to a back room with table service that I didn’t even know existed.

My kids love the chicken liver mousse at Annette, so tonight I ordered the foie mousse tonight so they could taste the difference. They still think Annette’s liver pate is the best they’ve ever had. Yes, I am raising lil food monsters.

Fun first day in the city. We loved & Juliet, and then we had dinner at La Grande Boucherie, and checked out the ice skaters at Rockefeller Center. Met up with our nice who is a student at Fordham.

A mean Russian flight attendant skipped our row for beverages and a bunch of babies screamed their faces off, but we are now in the lovely city of Newark where we shall stay at an airport hotel and go into NY tomorrow.

So glad we have an evening flight because today has been nonstop laundry and cleaning and packing.

Rep. Jason Crow's office is seeking a Capitol Police investigation into Trump for what they described as "intimidating, threatening, and concerning" social media posts.

It's highly unusual for a member of Congress to request a police investigation into a sitting president of the United States.
Scoop: Democrat requests police investigation into Trump over "threatening" posts
"All of these posts are intimidating, threatening, and concerning," Rep. Jason Crow's office wrote.

Everyone debates the merits of the spatchcock, but I'm here to tell you: consider cutting the halves of the turkey off the carcass, dry brining the meat, and roasting the carcass to make your stock for gravy and other dishes (like dressing/stuffing) ahead of time. 🍽️🍜

Since I almost died postpartum and still have PTSD, I will not be reading the Guardian piece on the Free Birthers. There are so many ways my babies and I would be dead if I had free-birthed: breech twins, preeclampsia, one had spina bifida, I had to have a blood transfusion and was intubated.

Honestly a commonality for Jon and me: the sort of job where shit just keeps happening and it’s the end of the night and you never are your lunch. Thankfully my emergencies are all food related.
Me at 6:30: “I’m starving. I had a breakfast sandwich before I came in at 11 and a like two inch hunk of chicken breast from what was put up for family meal.”
Exec chef: “that’s a normal diet, right? That’s why I had two bowls of Honeynut Cheerios last night at 1 am.”

Having an 11:30 pm pasta craving and I should probably go rustle something up because I absolutely did not have enough time during my shift to eat enough today.

While trying not to be in the decorators way, I was like, “I just need to grab this butter. And my knife bag. And this thing.”
And without missing a beat she goes, “and this lamp. And this thermos.”
And I was like “and this paddle ball! But I don’t need you!”
So “Camp Christmas” is taking over the building at work. Camp as in campy. We are “The Winter Pearl” for the season. The vibe is a bit “look at this stuff, isn’t it neat, wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete” but I like it.

Chef posted the shucker position so it’s official: other shucker is leaving. We’ve been the only two for two years. Big end of an era feels even though I know he’s been feeling like it’s time for a while, and obvs we each drove each other a little crazy sometimes. He’s a 22 yo boy and I’m a 40 yo!
