I want to add that the only saving grace from this style of Internet was no algorithm to push it around, but you still had days or even weeks of people writing these journals to give their hot take.

I remember my dad telling me the further they got into the 2000s, the less weird and more corporate the jobs started to feel. He and my uncle were responsible for a lot of the Much Music bumpers and animations in the 90s and it was probably one of their most creative periods they had.

This is also true. I was more thinking about the people who think simple = less impressive, but in general it's easy to see why realism or the need to view something more realistically is appealing.
