i once asked the project manager in a rare appearance whether a rule i remembered seeing in the spec was correct (it would have massively hampered my implementation if it was). he told me verbatim “that’s not for someone like you to worry about”

the most skilled workers on the team when i started all quit and found new jobs, new guys come in with no knowledge of customer expectation and hit all the same pitfalls over again because there’s no continuity of knowledge whatsoever
