I've been out of academia for nearly 8 years at this point, but academic publishing has a long tail, so here's a brand new article I'm a co-author on, dealing with the genetics and migration history of people in medieval Berlin. 🧪🏺
Genetic and Isotopic Analyses of Medieval Skeletons (1150–1349) at St. Peter’s Churchyard, Berlin/Cölln, Germany
The medieval market Berlin, nucleus and starting point of what eventually became Germany’s capital, was mirrored by another medieval settlement named …

From a control standpoint, the fastest wins are actions that reduce net radiative imbalance now, because the ocean integrates whatever we leave on the books.

Ocean heat content is the system’s ledger: it integrates forcing over time. Solutions that matter are those that measurably flatten that curve, not just annual temperature spikes.
Treat it like stabilization, not optimization: stop adding energy to the integrator first; refinements come later.

"It seems like every few years, you could write a whole new book on gravity."

James Riordon, author of "Crush: Close Encounters with Gravity," recommends his favorite books on this peculiar force—from the equations needed to understand it, to a funny book about what it's like to live without it:
Gravity
Since the 17th century, we've been aware that the force that causes apples to fall from a tree is the same force that holds the planets in the sky, but we still don't know everything there is to know…

How do you test the limits of quantum theory? By making gentle tweaks to it in a model universe and examining how the laws of physics change as a result. The latest of these tests from Perimeter researchers is a ‘foil theory’ called twirled worlds. Learn more: perimeterinstitute.ca/news/twirled...
