grateful to have received the david schramm award 2025 of the high energy astrophysics division (HEAD) of the american astronomical society (@aas.org), for my @skyandtelescope.bsky.social feature article 'catching cosmic neutrinos' (about the KM3NeT neutrino detector in the mediterranean sea) 🤗👍🏼⭐🏅🔭🧪

Saw a talk recently by NPR correspondent Tom Bowman. He was upfront that right now his best sources weren’t in the pentagon but in Congress and the Romanian attaché and such. When the official sources are already so awful/ useless, it’s much easier to say no

Oh how cool! Yeah the 100-level classes fill up FAST. I’m sure I’ll be doing more of them in the future tho if she can be patient. :)

We’ll have to have you out for a colloquium sometime! 🦆

As the job ad says, yes, a PhD is required. Radio astronomy training is preferred but not required.

Also, if it's helpful to anyone working on their application, please note this skeet from yesterday. 😅

Yeah, even crazier- last year for my postdoc ad a full half of the applications legit never made reference to anything my lab does and how my research would connect to theirs. You are literally in the top half of applicants for just TRYING to draw a connection in a sentence in the cover letter!

Are you interested in working on astronomical transients/ radio astronomy, all while exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest on your weekends? I'm hiring a postdoc! Come work for me!

Yeah, and also, YMMV but I always dislike the ones asking to Zoom chat at this stage. I have a lot of stuff to do, and am not on the admissions committee, so feels like a waste of time for all. Emails asking stuff like "are you taking students?" or an actual question are of course welcome

Confession- if prospective PhD students reach out to me and I don't think they actually know what I do, I don't answer.

TBF a lot seem to mix me up for the GW-focused ppl in our department. But yikes, not a great first impression to talk about your interests in my lab that my lab doesn't do. 🫠

There is something doubly hilarious about a tariff costume sold at Spirit Halloween that was undoubtedly not made in the USA and costs $60 because of tariffs

Ohio State just advised all staff and students not to attend the SACNAS (Society for the advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) annual meeting of 6000+ scientists -- which is in Columbus, OH this year! -- saying it may be exclusionary, even though it is open to all.

Quite a crowd gathered to listen to @sanjanacurtis.bsky.social talk about the origins of elements!

Brag moment- this round I actually had NASA contact my references, meaning I was in the top 0.5% of astronaut applicants and qualified as a “highly qualified candidate.” I feel that’s almost worth putting on my CV! 👩🏻‍🚀
