Happy Veterans Day!

I served from 1995-1999. Today, I'll remember those I served with, those we lost -- and all the laughter, boredom, panic, stress and friendship in serving.

And if you're in marketing, do not send out emails today (in the U.S.) that don't at least acknowledge this day.

What if the ultimate purpose of the internet is to foster more addiction?

Every American, no matter how much I disagree with them, should be able to speak their mind (politically), without being murdered.

It's really just that simple.

I absolutely believe you should be able to speak your mind (and political views) in public, unafraid. Even if I completely disagree w/ you. Even if what you say disgusts me.

I'm sorry, but nearly every time I post something here, the most toxic shit gets posted in response (from ppl I don't know; yes, i'm editing my interaction settings now). I know ppl dig bsky, but the vast majority of my interactions here are FAR worse than anything that happens on X or LI.

Thankfully, they have a suspect in custody. Political violence - in any form -- is unacceptable.

It may look like the same name, but trust me, it's a new thing. A new conversation, to be more precise. A single-track show. A discussion not a booth crawl. Lateral thinking not sales pitches. A return to our roots.

Finally getting around to checking out the @perplexitycomet.bsky.social browser. It's pretty cool....I gave it the (fairly easy) task of completing my daily Finnish lesson over on duolingo and it banged it out (showing me results in a side panel)....anyway, I'm digging it.

Now halve it again, and subtract 90%. The changes coming in software (from SDLC to dev careers to how software [and AI] will change orgs) will be as significant (if not more) as the spreadsheet and the internet. This conversation is so important that we're gonna run a conf about it. Stay tuned...

Classifying the cloud isn’t as simple as it used to be. And that's a good thing. I wrote a few words about how the way we define providers is blurring, because workload boundaries are blurring too.

What we need is a conversation about how software is changing the SDLC, changing the dev career path, changing how we operate our orgs. That conversation should cover AI, but not be limited to it. It should truly be a conversation - not a sales job, or lead gen exercise. Stay tuned.

I posted one thing about Mamdani and I've since been called "nazi trash" and a fascist who needs to apologize for my crimes.

Please note: I wasn't even (really) critical of Mamdani in my post.

so it's good to see that bsky is inclusive and welcoming.

Maybe it's just me, but I say the Federal Reserve should work out of an old barn in Nebraska. They could work on repairing it and painting it in between meetings.

been thinking about how we're living in an analogy to the 99-00 top/bust. If I'm right, then things are about to get nutty. In the aftermath, we get the kind of opportunity that we had back in 2002.

Pain for the sw industry? For sure.
A new foundation for building? Absolutely.

Just so my position is abundantly clear: I think Zohran Mamdani is an idiot. That said, I don't live in NYC, so this will be the extent of my emotional energy spent on said topic. I'm just assuming more inbound NYers in FL.
