I’m feeling sick right now so apologies if the book bits slow down. Trying to avoid letting anyone down, but I just seem to get sick in the winter.

I have lots of wonderful classroom resources and ideas to share for any teachers reading ASAP! 🙏

I just had the most braw feedback any writer could hope for on The Moggie – someone said it helped them calm down from a panic attack. 🥹

That, coupled with a wee lassie saying she wanted to be an author when she grows up after my writing workshop, makes it all worth it.

But I did write ‘The Hoolet Thit Couldnae Fly’ during the happiest summer of my life and it’s a tear-jerker too so maybe this is just my style.

They’re very emotional stories because they’re so rooted in life and death. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t happy in their own way!

I fear that I only write brilliant novel endings when I’m awfae sad as it only ever seems to happen when I’m clinging on by a thread.

The ending of ‘Cathy, get yer Dancin Shoes Oan’ is a tear-jerker. But life-affirming too.

It was worth waiting ten years to get it right.

‘Writing is a kind of revenge against circumstance too: bad luck, loss, pain. If you make something out of it, then you've no longer been bested by these events’

— Louise Glück

‘Cathy, get yer Dancin Shoes Oan’ is worth fighting for. And these shoes will be on the cover.

A huge thanks to Book Fairies Scotland for helping to share Scottish literature this #BookWeekScotland!

It was also an extra big win because the last time I spoke in front of hundreds was at Cambridge University – and I went into that relatively blind.

Today I knew the audience size and did it despite not feeling myself! 💪

Successfully read to an audience of THREE HUNDRED children the day.

No riots occurred and they asked braw questions about the Scots language so I’m calling that a win!
