You can shit on these style of books all you want, but YA, Romance, and Fantasy are basically the only reasons we still have a publishing industry. These genres (esp Romance) are load-bearing columns. If readers want it, we should make it easier to get instead of ruining an already strong category.

“There is a way out. The only way out there has ever been: to simply stop. To stop calling on higher powers alone, but to drive a friend to and from the hospital. The ability to love one another and gather even under the boot of cruel lawmakers.”
It would degrade this essay to call it a postmortem on the election, but still - it is the only “postmortem” writing that has truly resonated with me. Morally clear, pragmatic, and deeply caring. By @emotrophywife.bsky.social in @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social:

Right now is a good time to call your reps and tell them you are against ANY form of book banning (including the "Parents Bill of Rights" bill). The GOP House majority is going to be super slim in January, and they couldn't get the entire caucus behind the bill last time. We can beat this bill!

If you want to actually understand the current wave of book banning you need to read this. Please don’t come at me with “getting your book banned is a badge of honor.” It is NOT. You also don’t solve book banning by buying banned books, but sure, please do buy my books too, banned or not. Because…
How to explain book bans to those who *actually* want to understand what's going on.

Conveniently, I decided to rerun one of this year's most popular book censorship posts this week and it seems like I need to just rerun this every week.
