This led to a collaboration with Jacqueline Brockhurst & Diane Griffin @johnshopkinssph.bsky.social. In vaccinated monkeys, they found the vaccine virus in the lung in 6/8 monkeys, and some evidence for lung replication. However, none of the monkeys' social partners became infected (4/8)...

We then tested 1-year-olds before and after their first measles vaccine to see how often this occurs. In 25% of healthy children, the vaccine virus was detectable in the nose 1-2 weeks post-vaccination! These children were healthy and we did not detect any live virus being shed (3/8)...

When studying viral confections in children with #COVID19, we came across sequences from measles virus (MeV) in a nasal swab from a 1-year-old. Further analysis showed it was the live attenuated measles virus (weakened strain used in the vaccine), and the entire genome was in the nose (2/8)...
