this also means that if you see a private entity bending over backwards to abide by this administrations rules, remember that most likely they do not rely on governmental funding, and as a result are not required to do any of this bs. they’ve just always been terrible, and they don’t deserve your $$

the government has its hands in a lot of people’s pockets, but ultimately those who are not beholden to it have a responsibility to make up for the deficit left by those who are. resistance like that is how we continue forward. private orgs that are preserving data, NGOs providing info, all of it

this line of thinking also follows for any private institutions that are free from government funding. my university has actually doubled down and began providing MORE resources about black history month, info about ICE, etc, since this administration has taken office

if you are affiliated with an NGO, currently it is not only your right, but your DUTY to keep that information up for as long as you can. preemptively removing it to ‘protect’ your organization will only do harm and is exactly what this administration wants to see happen

now, a lot of these NGOs do rely in some part on government funding, but ultimately the whole point of an NGO is that they are NON GOVERNMENTAL. the same freedom of speech laws that allow orgs to spread misinformation about vaccines also protects NGOs right to talk about trans people

i just came out of a meeting with a bunch of public health practitioners and organizations within the greater chicagoland area, and one thing that was pointed out is that a concerning number of NGOs may be preemptively censoring themselves and removing mentions of trans people from their sites
