The #Delta plane is still parked far away from the gates, so we have to be going by bus.
We are shoved in the bus like sardines for another 25 min, now standing still next to our plane, waiting for some clearance to be allowed out of the bus. It is getting very hot.

We boarded nearly four hours ago and finally got a baggie of chips. Everyone was getting hungry! This is a long international flight so people are served a meal and might not have brought any food.

This “High protein” Strength Meals is like 90% rice with some tiny shredded pieces of chicken and barely any sauce. Disappointing.

Wow! Stars! And amazed at how good my iPhone can capture all of them. We finally figured out what the Southern Cross looks like.

Back in New Zealand after two back-to-back conferences, for a couple of days of vacation at the Coromandel peninsula, before we head back home. Lovely bed and breakfast with amazing view.

Dr. Jen Beaudry @drjbeaudry.bsky.social is closing the #AIMOS2025 conference, pointing out new and existing fellowship and funding opportunities for meta-research projects. "We are having a Meta Moment of $6.5 million dollars!"

We end with a very meta photo of the conference chairs!

Thank you!

NC: EPA released a draft review that looks great! Systematic review! But it is very flawed. They only included papers older<2019, excluded 100s of relevant studies, it was cherry picking data.

We did a systematic review: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

NC: We know this is true, we have preclinical/animal data, but we are told to prove this through RCTs.
US EPA released reports but Australian government still claims PFAS are not proven to be bad.
We are exposed to 1000s of chemicals, yet we still evaluate one chemical at the time.

Another time I was in a lecture theater in a modern building, where wheelchair users could sit at the top.

But the podium could only be reached down a flight of stairs, with no entrance at the bottom, which had an emergency exit that opened to the street.

Only for able-bodied lecturers !

Organizing a small conference in an old building can be amazing!

But it might create obstacles for some participants, if the building does not have elevators, or if the nearest bathroom is on a different floor from the conference room.

Can we please discuss accessibility at conferences?

When organizers and schedules assume that everyone can walk fast and climb stairs, people with mobility issues (visible or invisible) might feel excluded.

AW: Set of papers where the discussion sounded like a second introduction (background information) with many new references, much more than other control papers.
Likely citation manipulation. This could help sleuths find more of such papers.
