Sometime-journalist, copywriter, semi-itinerant menu art salesbeing. Accidentally diagnosed as ASD, grudgingly considered to have ADHD. Interested in energy, tech, things and stuff. Worries too much.
I'm doing FINE. I made a daft post about a silly topic, and the daft point I made was immediately validated by people who should know better.

Now I'm responding mostly through grim fascination at seeing how long people will "ignore" me by replying with insults.

Duration-wise, you're winning BTW.
November 27, 2025 at 8:15 AM
Also please consider the contradiction between "should be ignored or blocked" and "share posts so more can do so".

Sharing a bad take is the opposite of ignoring. And you seriously think my stupid post is worthy of mass-dunking?

I've been polite so far, but this is really pathetic.
November 27, 2025 at 1:19 AM
Ok, no joke: please work on your reading comprehension.

You've said I asked a question when I did not.

You claim I've said my posts are worthless when I did not.

What I DID say was people should block posters they find annoying. Worth is only ever in the eye of the beholder.
November 27, 2025 at 1:19 AM
I didn't ask a question - I made a statement.

And yes - if people annoy you, block or mute them. You owe them nothing, and certainly not a reply.

Anyway, you do you - if you enjoy replying to silly posts, that's fine. (This has been an odd evening for me, but I've had an... interesting time.)

Badly! It's a disaster! We're a ridiculous country!

We mostly don't melt down online when people use a fake stupid demonym for us though.

Swings and roundabouts, innit.
November 27, 2025 at 12:22 AM
At least it doesn't have a glottal stop.
November 27, 2025 at 12:02 AM
I'd argue that, rather than being a relevant defence for people from the USA being called "Americans", the example of Australia is similar but reversed: one dominant country has had its name applied to a far wider area, without much justification.

See the article's long sections on nomenclature.
November 27, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Your previous argument was "[the continent of Australia] does not have anything to do with the plate".

The extract above demonstrates that the continent of Australia IS geographically defined by the tectonic plate.
November 27, 2025 at 12:01 AM
The argument was "Australia is the name of the continent".

The "continent" was previously considered to be only the island of Australia.

As understanding evolved, the name became applied to the plate, even though there were other countries on it.

This is not uncontroversial.
November 27, 2025 at 12:01 AM
No, I'm responding to them. Like I am now with you.

I think your argument, such as it is, is very silly - so my annoyance stems from the quality of the arguments, rather than their existence per se.

I also know this is objectively pointless, so I'll stop the second it's not marginally interesting.
November 26, 2025 at 11:46 PM
And please, as far as I'm concerned, call us whatever you like - I don't care! It has no impact on me.

Because, crucially, I can just ignore you.
November 26, 2025 at 11:40 PM
Well I deleted my first three replies. This is as polite as I can manage right now.

For example, I haven't used phrases such as "dribbling imbeciles" or made reference to the wallet inspector, to any of the people who are "ignoring" me in my notifications.
November 26, 2025 at 11:40 PM
I mean, I'm annoyed by some of the more asinine arguments being presented to me. But I enjoy arguing on the internet, so... it's fine?

But overall, I'm just grimly fascinated by this whole experience. It's like watching people walking straight into a ditch that's right in front of them. Why???
November 26, 2025 at 11:32 PM
I'm not defending Britain's awful history. I'm just saying it's not a factor in this - again, incredibly stupid and pointless - discussion.

Who cares if idiots online call you by a stupid fake demonym? If you DO care, all I can suggest is that you learn not to.

Now it's bedtime for me. All best.
November 26, 2025 at 11:29 PM
I can talk about this stuff endlessly, thanks to an international politics degree, ADHD, and a loathing of giving up on an argument.

But I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make here.
November 26, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Listen. You seem like a decent person, as far as I can tell from a quick look at your posts. You're followed by a bunch of people I like.

Please go and do something else.
November 26, 2025 at 11:29 PM
No, the crucial difference is Ireland is not the world's most powerful country. And they are demonstrably weaker because of what we did.

Unless you'd like to talk about the lasting ill effects plaguing the US as a result of British tyrrany..?
November 26, 2025 at 11:22 PM
But again, you are all - to my utter dismay and disbelief - proving the point I was making.

If this really bothers you, then ignore it, or block me, or go for a walk or something. Don't argue with an online rando!

Bloody hell....
November 26, 2025 at 11:18 PM
It's utterly ridiculous to try and claim THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY has any current complaint about a war for independence 250 years ago.

I do not understand why this is difficult to grasp.
November 26, 2025 at 11:18 PM
It's not about the past, it's the present.

Ireland has a tiny population - directly as a result of British policies and atrocities. Its economy is a fraction of the UK's.

America has an economy approx 8x ours, a population more than 5x ours, the largest military, the most cultural influence.
November 26, 2025 at 11:18 PM
But more notably, I think it's worth pointing out:

The apparatus of the state of the USA was created by the people in the same role as protestant settlers in Ireland: those put there to displace the native population.

Colonisation already happened.
November 26, 2025 at 11:11 PM
Yes, the Irish very famously did not use force at any point.
November 26, 2025 at 11:11 PM
Please read the things you're citing. Please.
November 26, 2025 at 11:03 PM
... no, it doesn't.

People from a country VASTLY more powerful in every aspect trying to justify getting angry because of a conflict 250 years ago is just... What??

You're not Ireland.

Seriously, this is utterly bonkers. I'm stunned. I'm even tempted to start saying "touch grass" for god's sake.
