Retired from US Cts - 30 yrs as crim defense investigator, 6 as writ clerk (think habeas petitions... but by the 100s).
So, 36 yrs on Team Due Process.

Remember how bad Rehnquist seemed?
Parties and politicians (moreso the latter, bc parties are behemoths) are responsive to large shifts in public sentiment. It has become clear in recent months that US public sentiment generally has shifted on that issue. So yes, I do think the federal govt's posture will shift...IF we survive Trump.

My team? Don't have one. Well, not a party team. I'm on Team Democracy.

1/2 of the current schism in the D Party of which you've heard are those wanting to eschew corp $, dismantle CU & run on working people's concerns - incl obscene & antidemocratic wealth concentration. (Not so in the R Party.)

There are instances where injustices will only be remedied, or highly irregular developments will only be addressed, by a pardon authority, in the executive or *maybe* legislative branch. (My work brought me face-to-face with some.) But that could be set up differently.

I don't think you really believe that things would not have been any different in a Kamala Harris presidency.

And, as I told my son, when the alternative is a plate of glass shards, I'll vote for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as readily as I'll vote for a gourmet meal.

Trump's pardon - of which several commenters here speak and which I agree is likely - won't help in the ICC.

Something tells me you just helped her double her number of followers.

Asha, I think you'd have approved (even if I was battlingthe FBI): I often did my investigating in a crumpled beige trench coat & always did it driving a quirky European convertible (not his Peugeot exactly, but a 1 of only 500 old Saab).

Trust me, I dgaf what the rich think.

I do have to be mindful, however, what they can convince a critical mass (35%, if they do it strategically*) of the American public to think.

I have not delved into the discussions had by the founders about the pardon power, but have read that it was a vestigial carry-over from European (read monarchic) govts.

Mind you, I'm critical of much Israel has done even before the current invasion & I consider Netanyahu a war criminal, so I'm not here trying to mount a defense of it - just to advance my own understanding, but are you talking solely about Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza & East Jerusalem?

With or without Trump's steadfastness, I suspect he's going to be keelhauled by some members of the Armed Services Committee.

We've strayed too far from the orig topic. Perhaps this will help (perhaps not 🤷🏻‍♂️): one may find Netanyahu & the recent conduct of the Israeli govt abhorrent & recognize (w/out being an apologist for Biden OR Harris) that a DJT presidency wd be immeasurably worse. For us AND the world, incl Gaza.

I can't imagine anyone arguing with that proposition. Of course it is.

I'd like the 20-fold tether better myself. but I figured it to be a harder sell politically because it'd be so abrupt a departure from the status quo. (Presently, a Fortune 500 CEO makes, on avg, 285x the *average* salary in their company -- so, easily 300x the lowest salary.)

It's a good goal.

I personally would like the 20-fold tether better, but I adjudged it to be a harder sell politically because it'd be so abrupt a departure from the status quo. (Presently, a Fortune 500 CEO makes, on average, 285x the *average* salary in their company. So, easily 300x the lowest salary.)

I hear Trump tried it in Moscow.
