They look like they are fitting or servicing extended end connectors ("duckbills") that were installed on Shermans to add width to the standard tracks, improving manoeuvrability in mud, snow, etc.

A friend climbed Kilimanjaro last year. The guides warned the party not to feed or attempt to pet the caracals that hang around the camps. Inevitably, some idiots did; one ended up with severe lacerations and had to be evacuated, requiring surgery to save her fingers.

We had a Lurcher, Sammy, in 1972, when I was 8. My Dad bought him to catch rabbits on the farm, but the only thing he ever chased successfully was his tail! When not doing that, he spent most of his time asleep in front of the fire.
