Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

CO2 levels are 15ppm higher because of climate feedbacks impairing the ability of the land and seas 🌊 to take up some of the extra CO2 we're pumping into the atmosphere, according to ‪@pfriedling.bsky.social‬ 🧪

This was expected, but it's still not good

Earth's carbon sinks are being eroded by climate change feedback loops
Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have risen an extra 15 parts per million since 1960 due to the declining ability of the land and sea to soak up excess CO2

South Australia’s algal bloom isn’t random. It’s what happens when we cross #PlanetaryBoundaries—climate, nitrogen, ecosystem collapse.

This is real. It’s economic. It’s now.

I'd like to introduce a new page on my website: U.S. climate indicator visuals (zacklabe.com/united-state...).

I only have a few basic variables so far, but I will be expanding this summer to add a range of metrics (e.g., ecological). I welcome suggestions! Hope this is useful, especially nowadays.

Opening roadless forests isn’t about fire prevention—it’s about logging access. 84% of wildfires are human-caused. More roads = more people = more ignition. The science is clear, but politics keeps pretending otherwise.

The Trump administration claims roads in forests prevent wildfires. Researchers disagree.
Experts say repealing the "Roadless Rule" won't help stop fires, but it will help loggers.
