Would love to see journos use the same negative heuristics when reporting on Trump & co. as they do for foreign non-aligned governments: don’t call it an admin, call it a regime; don’t call him president, call him a strongman; don’t call colleagues being snatched detentions, call them silencings…

This week: we execute a U.S. citizen.

Next week: we take over elections to stop “fraud.”

It's so transparent what's going on here.

If SNL does not do a spoof ChatGPT ad, with all and the corny scrolling dialog overlay (“I see you decided to bomb a country. Great! Here’s a plan to run it…”), it will all have been in vain!
I received an intelligence briefing on Trump’s plan for “running” Venezuela. It sounded like it came from ChatGPT.

As it was for Venezuelans electing Hugo Chavez in 1999, after leading a failed coup attempt in 1992. Perhaps the issue is electing actors who have demonstrably disregarded the same democratic norms that allowed them to gain power.
The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

Who could have possibly imagined this as an outcome…? Oh, let’s see: anyone with a modicum of knowledge on the Venezuelan regime.

What's especially insane about all of this is that Maduro is going to get more due process than the Venezuelan migrants deported to CECOT.

As terrible as the invasion of Venezuela seems, the bigger picture is worse “…what we just witnessed was the death of sovereignty as a meaningful concept, delivered with all the ceremony of a hostile takeover announcement on the NASDAQ on a Tuesday morning.”

Even though Maduro is an evil criminal who stole an election, and is probably guilty of the charges in the indictment, the operation to seize him brazenly violated domestic and international law.
