Either way, big change from this fall.

The weather pattern across North America this month has been fairly consistent, with a anomalous low-pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska and an anomalous high-pressure system over the Rocky Mountains.

The two pressure systems swap places after Thanksgiving.

Weather pattern change to put CA in a precarious position post-Thanksgiving. Maps shows the "standard deviation" (spread) amongst weather models Dec. 1. There is more uncertainty about the atmospheric pattern over CA than anywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere! Could be cold/wet or less cold & dry

Impressive 24-hour precipitation totals in Southern California from the latest storm. Downtown Los Angeles (Dodger Stadium) picked up more than 2 inches of rain between 11 a.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday.

L.A. has now received 5.52 inches of rain this month, the city's wettest November since 1967.

It's going to be prime #TuleFog season in #California next week. Soil moisture >90th percentile across much of CA thanks to recent rain. Light winds with high-pressure system overhead will make for ideal conditions for radiation fog. Plan ahead if traveling through the valley for Thanksgiving. #CAwx

A lot of daily and monthly record high temperature records across the U.S. today. Here’s an animation showing places that were within at least 3 degrees of setting a record, mostly in the southern Plains.

Was just hit by a terrain-induced convective shower in San Francisco’s Twin Peaks neighborhood, the first I’ve experienced in my time living here. The marine layer typically limits surface convection along the San Francisco Peninsula, but it’s nonexistent today, making these showers possible. #CAwx

Back in rainy #SanFrancisco but on leave this week during a very stormy pattern. Wet day going to get even wetter. Great start to the rainy season so far! Follow the likes of @gporterwx.bsky.social @robmayeda.bsky.social @paulkpix.bsky.social and other Bay Area meteorologists for the latest! #CAwx

Lake Tahoe, which is often sheltered from strong winds during storms, is included in a high wind warning for gusts up to 65 mph Wednesday. It’s just the second high wind warning there in the past three years.

NWS forecasts mountain waves, which can carry winds from high elevations toward the lake.

Seasonal models with a 180-degree turnaround for November in California. What at one point was looking like a dry month is now favored for above-normal precipitation across the northern half of the state, with a wetter signal emerging for Southern California by the middle of the month, too. #CAwx

NorCal dry stretch ends Monday PM as an atmospheric river-fueled storm makes landfall near Eureka. Light warm frontal rain could skirt North Bay on Tuesday but Wednesday will be the day for widespread precipitation and strongest winds of the season so far in Bay Area. A solid fall storm. #CAwx

Weather service scientists are stretched so thin that meteorologists in Los Angeles, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area are simultaneously forecasting waves at Pacific beaches and snow in the Sierra Nevada — far beyond their typical area of responsibility.

Some weather service offices are issuing forecasts less frequently due to staffing shortages. The Sacramento office is publishing a forecast discussion just once per day.
