A little late sharing this here, but in case you missed it - our new publication in Sexuality Research and Social Policy! We examined how Canadian IPV research includes GSM individuals and reports on gender identity and sexual orientation.

LOVED attending @publichealthon.bsky.social’s webinar by @yorkuniversity.bsky.social’s Dr. Karen Campbell on the iHeal App — Digital Support in Intimate Partner Violence Care. A brilliant, engaging presentation on a truly groundbreaking, multi-province initiative (also involving @westernu.ca!)

Loved having the opportunity to present some of my in-progress #PhD work at the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International (NNVAWI) Conference. In my work, I explore the experiences of mothers with histories of #IPV navigating service systems with the aim of informing policy/practice.

In my latest @us.theconversation.com article, I examine Bill C-21’s provisions on intimate partner violence. Firearm reform is necessary - but without trauma- and violence-informed support & systemic change, it’s just a bandage on a deeper wound ⚖️

New gun law protections target domestic violence, but real prevention must start earlier
Without comprehensive legislative and societal reforms to address intimate partner violence, the measures in Bill C-21 risk being little more than a bandage on a gaping wound.

The best educational experiences I've had weren't rooted in the teacher's content knowledge but their ability to connect with me as a person and show me I was capable of connecting with the content. We've completely lost the plot when we invest in de-humanizing teaching and learning
Arrgh. This ad (which came across my FB feed today) encapsulates so much of what's wrong with our culture. It implies that boys are struggling with math because they aren't "man" enough and that the best solution isn't to invest more in public education but rather to have parents pay for AI.

Currently attending the Council for Criminal Justice’s event Policing Domestic Violence: Past, Present, and Future. I’m so impressed by the incredible panel they’ve pulled together for a discussion on policing DV, the history/intentions behind mandatory charging policies, & what’s working in the US.

It's like they couldn't decide which dystopian novel they liked best, so they decided to do them all.
Kristi Noem has been working with the producer of “Duck Dynasty” to pitch a reality TV show—titled “The American”—where immigrants will compete in a string of challenges across the country “for the honor of fast-tracking their way to U.S. citizenship,” according to a new report.

Mandatory arrest laws in domestic violence cases are ineffective, unnecessary, and lead to the arrests of survivors of violence, even in places where police are told to determine who the primary aggressor is. It's long past time to repeal them. calmatters.org/commentary/2...

Highly recommend Feminist Law Reform for Gender-Based Violence Organizations training through Luke’s Place. In light of the current socio-political climate, this training was a much-needed reminder of what is possible, reinforcing how the law can help drive positive change.

Progress on #GenderEquality in health care is too slow.
Women have distinct & changing health needs at different stages of their lives. Health care should be easy to access, fair & tailored to meet each woman’s unique needs & circumstances.

As we prepare for #IWD2025 on March 8, we recognize & remember over 1,200 women & girls killed, primarily by men, since we began this work in 2018.

These women & girls will never mark this day again, including the women and girls killed in 2024🔽.
