I noticed a small toad scrambling away from my lawnmower. I stopped, gently picked it up, and moved it to a safe area. For a fleeting moment, when it stopped squirming, I let myself imagine that it trusted me and appreciated my help. Probably the best use of my imagination in a long time.

Watching season 3 of *Bosch* (so good!), one scene surprised me a little. Bosch is standing on his patio at night, overlooking the VAST urban spread that is LA, but the only ambient sound is made up of sirens. As a metric of our culture, it’s pretty sad that it’s the best we have to offer.

Today we honor Juneteenth, a reminder that freedom was fought for, not given. We must honor the past by continuing to fight every day for justice, truth, and equality.

On Juneteenth, we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, culture, and the enduring strength of community across generations. We acknowledge our nation’s full history and the long, ongoing fight for freedom and justice for Black Americans.

Juneteenth is American history.
It honors the resilience of Black Americans and the unfinished promise of freedom.

Let us celebrate, reflect, and keep working toward a country where liberty and justice truly mean for all.

Went to a “No Kings” protest today, so I made some signs. Over a thousand people (and their signs) showed up. The supportive honking was deafening. #NoKings #NoKingsDay

No Kings
The Declaration of Independence specifies 27 grievances with King George III and Britain.

Donald Trump has committed at least 16 of those same offenses.

I’ve been invited to sign up for SO many classes & programs & art workshops & online communities. But I have no way to discern which one to pick. Where is the class for people suffering a 43-year identity crisis & who have lost traction with their old interests? I’m overwhelmed into paralysis.

You right. You right.
btw if you're so petrified of doing a bad job that you can't even start, then what you need isn't advice on how to make comics. you need to learn to embrace being messy and bad at things and being okay with that because it's necessary, and actually it's GOOD. being messy is WONDERFUL

Rest in peace, Peter David, writer of comics and novels. Always helpful when I asked a question or sent a message. I knew he's had health issues. Sad to see this news.

I support creative endeavors that aren’t “for me” as often as I can afford. But it’s also helpful that intangibles like love, friendship, cooperation, and fellowship are “for everyone,” however they’re presented through genre, gender focus, or cultural difference.
An incredibly important skill REQUIRED for being a mentally healthy successful creative is to practice going "That thing isn't for me, but I'm really happy for its apparent success!"

Spending energy on hating things and making that your personality always leads to unhappiness or self embarrassment.

Americans work more hours,
take less vacation,
work longer days,
& retire later.

But hey, at least we're not stuck with socialized health care.

While searching Shakespeare quotes for Memorial Day, “Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear” - it occurred to us that the lesson is, if it is truly dear to us, we should fight to save it. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #ShakespeareSunday #SaveCoral

Foxes have claimed the den under our shed, which explains the disappearance of chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits. They are beautiful and fascinating to watch.
