In later years, my dad refused to be the sponsor for this competition, saying it gave kids the wrong idea. Instead, he came in and gave a lecture about buying and holding a well-diversified portfolio and not trying to time the market. Not such a fun game but solid lesson.

I think the California Earthquake Authority has a structure like that. But mortgage lenders don't require earthquake insurance, so I am not sure why people wouldn't exit the market.
