Thought I'd best do an intro, since people seem to do that...

I'm Em (they/them), probably mostly here as a writer of sad, slightly strange, queer and genderqueer sff. I also heard there's some great DS9 chat around...

Here's a picture of me looking somewhat hungover and in an awful mood 😄
Okay, 25 words of cosy kitchen banter written

Now for my second cup of coffee and an abrupt end to my characters' fun ✨

Cymera conference pics!

A day of inspiration, learning, and conversation in the gorgeous Tollcross Central Hall

I want to spend all day writing and thinking about writing, but alas the groceries will not buy themselves

The problem with my heated blanket is that I now seem to be stuck in the sofa forevermore

Ah well

Another fabulous @cymerafestival.co.uk conference today

Big thank you to everyone who put in so much hard work to make the day what it was

And special mention to the wonderful folk who kept us well supplied all day with hot coffee and many types of tea

I love writing cosy mealtimes into my stories

Sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of tea, maybe some warm baked oatcakes with butter and honeycomb...

Priming my characters for Devastating Emotional Damage 🤩

My characters have had 2.5 mugs of tea in the past 800 words and I think my subconscious might be trying to ask me something...

The man who wanted to marry me many years ago also offered to be the main earner so I could try for a writing career

Sometimes I wonder where I'd be with my writing if someone else had paid the bills for the past n years...

Silly, I know, but winter feels like the season of memories and what ifs

Anti-immigration hatred is being fuelled *again* by rhetoric & intended action by the UK government. It's drawing on an old fascist strategy, but there are ways to say "no".

¡No pasarán! They will not pass.

I think my comments on class might be a little like sledgehammer blows in this draft...

I might do a 'Nuance and Subtlety' editing pass at some point...

But my toff character really is quite fun, and I am enjoying covering them in mud and rain

Why do big companies like Waterstones try to ruin it for those of us who want a little variety in our lives and love our indie bookshops too?

There's just no need
We need your help.

@waterstones.bsky.social, without any direct communication with us, will be opening their 6th Edinburgh branch less than 100 metres from our front door at the Foot of the Walk in Leith.

My child and I have discovered the café at Murrayfield ice rink

Nothing quite like a cup of soup and a hot pie to warm up after skating

(Child skates very slowly. I get very cold)

My favourite lines of this chapter so far (not sure they'll survive edits but they make me grin):

“Don’t be stupid.”
“Stop calling me stupid.”
“I will when you stop acting it.”

Yep! :)
I know some people get weirded out by the earnestness of queer allies, but I love every cis/straight person loudly showing their support for their LGBTQIA friends, families and random strangers.

Demonstrating to others their acceptance and love is an important art of normalising our existence too.

Just 100 words...

Maybe I'll start with just 1...
