Po-tay-toes. Boil us, mash us, stick us in a stew.

I read it first in grad school and I didn't realize how big an impression it had until I was describing time travel in my little fantasy world as being "unstuck" or "doing the unstuck" (the last also inspired by listening to too much Cure as a teen and twenty-something).

Nice. That kid's going to make some awesome mix tapes… or playlists… or whatever them there children (mine amongst them) are calling them these days.

I was nodding along, thinking, "Yep, totally concur." Then, somewhat unbidden, I imagined the guitarist from my old high school-era band yelling at his instrument to "STAY TUNED!" and I thought, "If my kids ask, I'm telling them it's something Andy Hicks used to say."

Need more sleep.

7. You don't belong here.

8. They're all wondering why they invited you, you idiot.

9. Never go out again, you poor excuse for a human being.

10. Don't post about this on the internet, you dummy. You're going to do it anyway, but I'm going to try one last time to convince you that nobody cares…

4. They told you to order what you wanted, but they didn't want you to order THAT.

5. It's embarrassing that you didn't order a soup/salad after you were embarrassed how much your entrée cost—especially now that everyone is eating something but you.

6. They're all kind of wishing you would leave.

If I could afford it, I would. I'd love to collab some day. Gotta get my feet wet in the whole universe first though, and not just what I'm getting via Substack. That's why I went for the digital catch-up bundle. Can't wait to start reading! And then maybe next time!
