hm true.. in practice, i think a lot of fixed timestep games are actually essentially fixed delta time? e.g. you code as if delta time but the delta time is always the same. this allows changing the time if you want to do smaller physics steps each frame

i think probably the actual benefits of each as far as i can think of are:
- delta time lets you run the game at very high framerates. smoothly without having to do interpolation between frames, as is often done with fixed physics timesteps for example
- fixed time is way easier to write netcode for

theres ways to do full delta time that are pretty much consistent, but I don't think the result is necessarily any better than a fixed framerate would be and deltatime def makes things more difficult to reason about
