2/ I reckon they rival any "skyscraper" in NYC. This is tragic on so many levels.

1 I was utterly astounded by Hong Kong's construction working at incredible heights using bamboo scaffolding when I was there in 1991. To appreciate the way they've used bamboo in this application requires one actually see the "skyscrapers" they are used on in HK.

Um. we took our shoes off for decades and wandered around TSA tripping over our laces... Why not keep shoes off and put em up after fighting through airports? Be comfy I say.
