This song turned 1 this weekend!

When I finished writing this one, I kinda wanted it to be my signature song. It incorporated pretty much all I’d learned about songwriting up to that point. One year later, it’s been heard over 150K times all over the world.

Many thanks to everyone who’s listened.

Let's all allow Dick Cheney's peaceful passing at the ripe old age of 84 to remind us of the importance and joy of speaking ill of the dead when the dead were assholes.

This song has been out in the world for 10 days, and I’m finally posting about it.

I love this one for its undeniable groove and the pure musical alchemy of @johncalvinabney.bsky.social and Jules Leyhe playing off each other, particularly in that amazing outro.

It’s been well over a year in the making, and the first single came out nearly 12 months ago, but my new album is done and ready to share with the world!

The album is a journey from discord to peace and presence, and I’m extremely proud of what it represents in terms of my growth as a musician.

These idiots got defunded and learned nothing from it. I’m beyond disgusted.

John’s music is always a salve, but this one is extra special and much needed in these darkest of times.
I give to you today my new album, Transparent Towns.

In a hallowed hall on the prairie, with an inspiring cadre of musicians, and against the incandescent Oklahoma summer, we cut an album of songs that held weight while maintaining weightlessness. May you find something for yourself within it.

What is this “we” shit, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social ?? I am not on your side, and you will never get a dime from me.

I know it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway. Kimmel is no Lenny Bruce. He’s about as edgy as a nerf ball. This is the most disturbing part to me.

You know you’re a hopeless songwriter when:

1. You spent the week reviewing (and approving!) final masters for the new album

2. You spent the morning promoting the latest single from that album

And yet…

3. You spend the afternoon working on writing a new song

May the muse never give up on me!

New song out today!

This one started as a conversation with my dog, who was waiting for me to get ready for our daily hike and being "quietly insistent with patient persistence". That initial rhyme led me to a song about difficulties in communication, which somehow got me to the Tower of Babel. 😄

I woke up this morning having never heard of by-the-wind sailors. I saw the 1-down clue in the NY Times crossword and wondered what the hell they were. Then I took my dog on a hike to Muir Beach and saw some bizarre organic detritus on the beach.

What is the universe trying to tell me??

New cover out today!

This one is extra special because it’s a taste of what the Truer Sound band sounds like with @johncalvinabney.bsky.social in the studio playing keys with us. You’ll have to wait for the album to hear how they took my new songs to the next level.

This is why all the talk about the next election pisses me off. They have way too much time to do irreparable damage before then. We need solutions TODAY, not next November.

But all Democrats know how to do is fundraise for elections, so we’re screwed.
A pretty ominous trend to watch: Trump's second-term judicial nominees are providing the same cryptic answers about Obergefell v. Hodges that Trump's first-term judicial nominees provided when asked about Roe v. Wade ballsandstrikes.org/nominations/...

I can say this here because no one ever sees my posts anyway…

It absolutely destroys me that my friends and family don’t support and promote my music. I quit my job to try to prove to the world that I take my music seriously, and they just call me “retired”.

Maybe my music really is that bad. IDK

“Streets of Philadelphia” just came on in my Tidal mix, and it makes me wonder why Brandi didn’t choose this song to cover from that movie.

Here’s how we should handle the Epstein BS:

If you were ever associated with him in any way (attended a party, flew on a plane, wrote birthday wishes), you should be removed immediately from all positions of power until you can prove you didn’t break the law.

But that’s how we treat his victims.

It’s quite possible that this album is the one that made me realize how critical the rhythm section is for rock and roll. Chad and Patrick made this band great, even if Ed got all the attention.

Also, I haven’t rocked this damn hard in a long time, and it feels good.
