MORE COASTER SHENANIGANS! This one is based on Vol d'Icare at Parc Asterix in France, and in RCT2 this type is a BITCH to get right. But while I did use a few cheats for the cars, this one actually turned out pretty nice... once the layout stopped being a fool to work with.

the two disconnected path branches from earlier are now connected. in the center and bleeding over the left-most branch is a mini-coaster themed to alpine / ice / bobsledding. similar to the wooden coaster, this one uses block brakes in order to increase the amount of trains and, hidden in the building, has 2 stations: one for the entrance and one for the exit. the path to the right - heading towards the wooden coaster - has also been straightened out and now has a swinging ship at the intersection.

the coaster uses a cheat unique to OpenRCT2: "disable vehicle limits". usually, the mini coaster only allows 1 car per train, which would make single bobsleds. to increase throughput and speed - as well as matching inspiration Vol d'Icare at Parc Asterix - I disabled the vehicle limit and let this one have 2 cars per train. it can look a little weird on some designs, but as Vol d'Icare has it and look-alike track design Matterhorn Bobsleds also has it, I figured 2-car trains wasn't out of the ordinary. it gets a stat boost from the extra speed from a slightly heavier train, and the throughput is better as the trains can now hold 8 people instead of 4.

New coaster get! This wood thing is a BEAST: 8.18 Ex, 7.81 Int, 4.45 Nau. Only about 50mph max, but a twisted layout and 4.38 seconds of registered air-time make it one of the more exciting coasters I've made in RCT2. I also like the scenery around it. :3

the entrance from yesterday's work is at the left-most edge. the path follows the river to the right part of the shot, where another plaza with a mini railroad station has been built (backwards; the train will be going left to the station when finished). the centerpiece is a wooden coaster in a forest, which goes down the river one-way, ties itself in a knot, then swings around back up the river to go to the station.

apart from the wooden coaster, there is another food court (chicken nuggets, lemonade, ice cream), more souvenir stalls, and a small twist / scrambler ride tucked into the corner of the coaster between the station and the river. the path at some point might also get straightened out, forming a line between the scrambler and the path from the entrance at a right angle, because guests are terrible with curved double-wide path so it may get re-structured later.

another element of realism I tried adding in was a place where there coaster trains would go to be maintained. I added this shed up by the red-and-black junior coaster for that. using a cheat to disable clearance checks (whether or not something already occupies a tile), I extended the track from the station for the separation, then rejoined the track to the lift with the curve piece. as shown in the screenshot, if done correctly, the train will move on the regular path as shown and ignore the extension.

note: I tried this with the wooden coaster with an S-bend to separate the track, but it messed up the activation of a block brake for multiple trains. so I just have a bit of empty track sitting next to it which can be done the same way: building the track, using the S-bend to move back over, then deleting the S-bend to complete the loop. so far as I know, the game does not register the extra length traveled when factoring ride running costs, so it functions as a bit of extra scenery.

most of the original scenario's scenery - farmhouses, a silo, a stable, and multiple fields - is still intact, the biggest things removed are the path and the boat hire that occupied the pond. the portion built thus far is all in the top-left of the map, with the miniature railroad forming something of a boundary line. note that there are already 4 attractions (including the incomplete railroad) and 10 stalls in that tiny portion.

I LIED. I was able to do another 40 minutes because the bottom part by the river was annoying me. :3 But this is usually how it goes: I'll play heavily for a while then leave to do something else and come back later. I promise after this it will only be daily updates if I work more on it.

in the top-left of the screenshot is the original entrance from previous shot. the path crosses a bridge and goes down and to the right a little more, passing by a red-and-black junior coaster before hitting a small plaza with a ferris wheel and a snack bar (coffee and cookies, sign literally says "SNACK BAR"). the railroad also continues down this way, making a small s-bend before circling a pond that has been expanded from its previous size.

Okay, been watching a bunch of "fancy" / "realistic" RCT2 builds so now time to make one of my own. Using Electric Fields and trying not to break things too much with cheats, here's the entry plaza as this is about as much as my brain can take for tonight.

at the top left, an entrance plaza around a fountain leads to a main street through a large entrance building after the official boundary gate. it extends up to the top-right to a miniature railroad station, a carousel surrounded by gardens and a somewhat large building that contains a food court (unseen: hamburger stall, drink stall, cotton candy). following along the path is a tree-lined miniature railroad, which also has a mild trellis bridge, and currently stands unfinished as it will grow to accommodate being a park-wide transportation system. to the bottom-left and bottom-right, two footpaths extend from the main area over a river that runs through the park.

the main colors so far are beige, dark blue, and umber, with some gray from the roof pieces.

Preview of the "shorter" chapter version. Still lengthy considering each "book" is almost the size of a literal book, but we're at 19 chapters for potential "volume 1".

I am apparently unintentionally going to mimic LOTR chapter format now, except Dusty's our POV through everything.

Book 1 contains chapters 1 through 9, and book 2 contains chapters 10 through 19. word counts range from a low of 5578 to the highest of 9384, with an average of about 7700.

Note this chart. This is a list of every character who appears in chapters 6 and 7 of AoDY. We're going to focus on one Quentin Ashbrooke.

PURELY for the fact of releasing "Losing Touch" - one of if not THE best Killers' song - this album is amazing. "Spaceman", "Joy Ride", "Neon Tiger", "This is Your Life"... damn good.

Ironically, "Human" (though good) has become one of my least favorite because of overplaying.

And, if you let it sit long enough, it would start attacking others to try and get back what you stole from it." Dusty could feel his hackles raising and took a few deep breaths to try and stay calm. "...how many have you done this with so far?"

"I'd wager... there's seven down there right now. Eight or so suddenly collapsed one day and I had to move them off to the woods, so... fifteen in total? Bit of a high turnover rate, but I've kept the files up and made sure they've received all they needed, so what does it matter? Society as a whole has still functioned the same, so I don't think it's any particular loss..."

That was the last straw. Dusty growled before barking ferociously at Sylvaine, lunging as close as he could. "YOU SON OF A BITCH, I OUGHTTA KILL YOU FOR YOUR FUCKING ABSOLUTE DISREGARD FOR THESE PEOPLE."

"Well, you only knew the name of one of them..." Sylvaine said snidely.

Especially when I'm tying in the "fantasy epic about corruptive magic making people go insane" with plot points like THIS...

"Here's the thing, and something you have to understand," Mohan said, frowning. "I am not from here. I am from Marrakhan. The caracal is someone I picked up in Ushtani. While we're rare sights, no one would notice us if we left, and we have few others who would be able to vouch for our very existence if our names were not on a register."

Dusty's mouth dropped, his ears went flat, and he looked horrified between Kuroga and Mohan. He knew Kuroga had made it alright, and hoped to the Creator it wasn't that way.

"I'm afraid so," Kuroga said, frowning sympathetically. "It wasn't until the Hunters' Guild was well-established here that I had a fair chance at survival in Irilian. I was what they call 'stateless' after leaving Ushtani; my official home was there until I applied for residency in Domasis. Even then, I got lucky because of my connection to the Academy. But here in Irilian, it would not pass until I was signed up with the Guild."

"So Sylvaine's main workers are the dregs that no one cares about - those whom the church is supposed to help - or the stateless who can't get their name on a register and thus are fully in his hands..." Dusty recoiled and slumped like he'd been thumped in the chest. He wanted to scream but it only came out as a series of panting breaths and an ache that made him raise his paw to his head as though trying to keep something from breaking out. It was almost too much to handle.

The only scene I've fully thought of is an early morning / restless night where Dusty and the dad are the only two awake and he finally gets it when the dad is trying everything to help him calm down because he's picked up that Dusty's nervous / homesick before the coyote did.

Dusty does not have a good time in book 2. a close friend (and major character) dies shortly in, the guild he recently joined and gained renown for is under fire by mercenaries, he has to take a few months in a foreign country to sort out the friend's killer and what's going on with the mercenary guild, and his church and Order are shortly revealed to be complicit in a recent spread of corruptive energies. this puts a lot of stress on the coyote and, though not all is bad, it is enough to push him to his limits every once in a while.

take this night, for example. staying at the house of his love interest Kuroga, he's also now acutely aware that the mom doesn't like him, the brother doesn't care for him, the sister's mad because he snubbed her (Dusty's not gay, just already taken), and Dusty's getting the feeling he's not wanted. he's restless and actively pondering if he wants to go somewhere else when the father, who can't speak the same language, comes out and notices he's sitting in the living area. normally taciturn, Dusty at first tells the father that he's leaving, but the father comes over and gently places a paw on his shoulder, and things start to turn.

he can't speak to Dusty very well, but the father does sit with him and try a few things to calm him down. he tries to give Dusty a drink, shows old paintings of himself and his son (remarking on their similarities), and eventually gets across (through miming) that his son is happy with him so he will be. he also tries to explain a few things further (but still runs into trouble), and does get across that he wants Dusty to stay, but that's enough; Dusty finally breaks down. not from stress, but pure relief that *someone* in his love interest's family likes him.

shortly after this, Dusty makes his love confession to Kuroga and gets it returned in kind, with Kuroga affirming his dad likes him. Dusty will soon have to step up to the family's defense, and will do so because of this compassion.

Not me creating a whole character in HeroForge for this based on a TAIL design / coloration I saw at one of the dealers at AFC...

(I was SO TEMPTED to buy and use it as a body pillow, but one that I would wear for Dusty seemed the better purchase.)
